William Edmondson was the first Black man to receive a solo exhibition at the New York Museum of Modern Art. This statement was a present through line of the William Edmonson; A Monumental Vision at the Barnes Foundation. It acted to mark Edmonson within the historical canon of not only MOMA's history, but the larger narrative of art in that moment. Upon further research, I consistently found this statement in regards to Edmonson, a somehow relegated honor that upon further investigation actually offered little to aid in Edmonson's career beyond that.
